Defensive Driving Guide

When driving your vehicle the best thing you can do is learn how to be a defensive driver. A defensive driver is a safe driver because you are always doing what is best and never assuming that the other driver will do the right thing. Assuming the other driver will do the right thing is never what you should do. If you trust the other driver, you are putting your life in their hands. What you need to do is learn what is going to be in your best interests to be a good driver.

The first thing you really need to do is simple. Just simply pay attention to all of the drivers near you. You will learn to anticipate their next move and what they may or may not do. This is the key to driving defensively and doing what you need to get home safely. That is always the goal, of course. Fiddling with your radio or talking on your cell phone are NOT paying attention. These are the obvious worst things you can do when driving your vehicle. You need to always pay attention to the road and what is going on with your own car as well. If you aren't paying attention to your own driving, how can you pay attention to everyone else?

The next important thing you can do is always yield. If there is a yield sign, that doesn't mean casually glance and then simply go on through. If you are ever in doubt of who has the right of way, then just yield anyway and be smart. If you yield anyway, there is no doubting that you will get through safely and you don't have to worry about what the driver will do next. If you coast through the yield sign and just glance, you are running the risk of getting hit and it being you fault as well. So always yield, and when in doubt, yield longer and let them pass.

The next thing that you can do is don't speed. Speeding can cause an accident simply because you have less time to react. The faster you are going, the harder the impact would be in an accident as well. When you are driving, the time you have to react is very important. Driving excessive speeds is just really risky behavior and can result in other things besides just an accident. It can result in a speeding ticket from law enforcement and it will show poorly on your driver's record. This in turn affects your insurance rates.

Such an important thing you can do is so simple yet so many people don't do it. Put on your seat belt. It can be a pain to put on the seat belt for some people but it's worth the extra time. Some people complain of the comfort. However, its life saving benefits are much more beneficial. The seatbelt has been proven to save countless lives and is one of the most important inventions for the car that has ever been invented.

These are very important tips and a helpful defensive driving guide. You will be able to drive a little safer if you utilize these tips when you are driving. Happy Traveling!
